We are pleased to provide some updates regarding our efforts to install an Aircraft Detection Lighting System (ADLS) at Timbermill Wind.
Last month, we formally submitted our application to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to add ADLS to the wind project. We want to thank you for your patience as our team did the diligence necessary to design the system to ensure both aviation safety as well as provide relief from nighttime lighting that has been a source of concern for some project neighbors.
The FAA review process typically takes 45-90 days, though can take longer if additional review is needed. The agency will provide feedback on the location before ultimately issuing letters either approving or denying the lighting plan for each turbine.
While the FAA conducts their review, the Department of Defense will also review the ADLS lighting plan to ensure it complies with their rules surrounding military flight routes.

So, what's next? After receiving FAA approval, the project will apply for its FCC license to operate the radar and obtain any other required federal approvals before seeking a building permit from Chowan County. We anticipate the FCC process to take around three months. After securing any other required local, state, or federal approvals, construction on the system itself can commence, which will take between six to nine months.
While completing the ADLS system design took longer than we initially anticipated, we appreciate your patience as we work to address the concern and implement a solution.
